Timothy Chorba

Timothy A. Chorba focuses his practice on assisting clients in high-stakes litigations, investigations, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings across a broad range of sectors. He has in-depth experience in representing partnerships, corporations, manufacturers, institutions, and individual officers as well as employees in contract, fraud, civil rights, securities, and trade secrets disputes. Mr. Chorba has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in sophisticated class actions and coordinated multi-lawsuit litigations.

Mr. Chorba’s representative engagements have included:

  • Defending a client against a former provider of workers insurance compensation policies in a multi-year, complex series of litigations including by securing numerous decisions in the client’s favor on dispositive motions and key procedural issues before the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation and the New York Litigation Coordinating Panel.
  • Successfully opposing a motion to dismiss on behalf of a real estate developer on claims seeking specific performance of a joint venture contract.
  • Defending an attorney in an action seeking fees for his prior malpractice defense and settled all claims against him on favorable terms.
  • Winning a motion to dismiss in favor of an insurance company in a construction litigation.
  • Playing a key role on a trial team in a trademark litigation prior to the case settling on favorable terms for the client.
  • Securing a favorable settlement through mediation as lead counsel in a pro bono prisoner’s rights case on the eve of trial.

Mr. Chorba holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy from Georgetown University. He holds a dual Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration from the Georgetown University Law Center and McDonough School of Business.

While in law school, Mr. Chorba was a judicial intern for Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson during her tenure as a federal district court judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and a student attorney in the D.C. Law Students in Court Clinic, where he gained early courtroom experience representing tenants in housing court. Mr. Chorba began his career as a pro bono fellow at LatinoJustice PRLDEF working on high impact civil rights litigation as well as legislative and policy efforts.

Prior to joining Schulman Bhattacharya, Mr. Chorba was a litigator at Milbank LLP and a regional midsize law firm.
